It was a big day for Cecil County teams at the Maryland Track and Trail cross country meet at Fair Hill Saturday.
Rising Sun's girls and Bohemia Manor's boys both captured a team title. Led by Top 5 finishes from Elle Meyer and Grant Franceschina, Bohemia Manor placed fourth in the girls team competition and was fifth among Class 1A boys at Saturday's state meet at Hereford High.
Bohemia Manor captured both the boys and girls region titles Thursday at Fair Hill and will lead the Cecil County contingent into the state meet.
The Rising Sun cross country team traveled to Perryville Thursday afternoon.
Because of AP testing, the Tigers brought just three girls to the meet. Alanah Bell won the race in a time of 20:41 with Perryville's Aleah Losoya second (22:23), and the Tigers' Danielle Lee third (22:46). Bohemia Manor dominated the Chesapeake Division cross country meet, taking both team and individual titles Tuesday, October 6, in Havre de Grace.
The Rising Sun girls placed second and the Bohemia Manor boys were fourth at the Maryland Track and Trail cross country meet at Fair Hill Saturday.
The Tigers' Alanah Bell finished sixth in the 14-team small schools girls race, best of the local runners. Rising Sun (92) finished behind Catoctin (72). The Perryville cross country team’s head coach Raissa Moore is optimistic heading into the season.
The Panther girls finished fifth at the state meet last fall and return three runners who placed in the Top 34, led by seniors Aleah Losoya (12th) and Allison Morris (18th). The Rising Sun girls cross country team returns its top four runners from a team that enjoyed some postseason success last fall.
The Tigers captured the Susquehanna Division meet, placed second in the region meet behind Kent Island, and were 14th at states. Jake Moore, who guided the Perryville High track and field and cross country programs from relative obscurity to state supremacy, has stepped down from his teaching and coaching responsibilities to accept an administration position in Chester County, Pa.
Moore will be an assistant principal at Kennett Middle School in Landenberg, part of the Kennett Consolidated School District. He got a contingency offer several days ago but his Pennsylvania certification had not been processed. The official offer came yesterday at 4 p.m. and he accepted immediately. Moore informed the Perryville team this morning following the first cross country practice of the season. Bohemia Manor junior Ty Franks won his third Class 1A state cross country title Saturday at Hereford High School.
Franks completed the course in 16:26, 42 seconds ahead of second place Levi Cameron of Northern (Garrett). |
